The workflow, step-by-step

Tethered shooting
Shoot tethered directly into the computer and save time!

Using a FireWire® or a USB® cable you can shoot tethered into Capture One with Phase One digital backs and a broad range of Canon EOS digital cameras.

One of the great benefits of tethered shooting is the very fast transfer of the RAW files from your camera and directly into the computer. You do not have to worry about importing from memory cards or runing out of storage space.

High resolution images appears instantly on a color calibrated screen allowing you to soft-proof you images immediately. In seconds you can verify the composition, light, sharpness, focal point, exposure etc. and do the appropriate adjustments in the moment of capture in stead of having to adjust in post capture where it is less likely that you get it right. Tethered shooting means less retakes and less post processing time in front of the computer.

Importing images
Capture One automatically detects the flash memory card and an import dialogue appears. You now have the option of rename the RAW files as the are loaded into Capture One. To speed up the import process you can choose to disable preview generation.  Finally, you can delete the RAW files from the memory card as they are imported.

Adjusting white balance
White point adjustment is crucial in order to ensure accurate color reproduction. Capture One PRO allows you adjust the WP manually. To optimize the WP you can include a grey card in the shot. Click ‘Apply to All’  and the WP is automatically applied to the entire collection of images. Fine-tune the color temperature, tint, hue and saturation. Capture One can also automatically adjust the color balance for you the same way as the camera can.

Correcting exposure
Capture One PRO offers a range of powerful tools to compensate for over and under exposure. You can define your own exposure limits and apply the over og under exposure warning (or both) to all images. This will give you a quick overview of the critical areas. Use the exposure compensation slider to adjust (+/- 2½ EV stops). Keeping the exposure warning on while polling the slider will give you a good overview. For further fine-tuning use level/curve and the contrast slider. Capture One offers automatically exposure adjustment based on an analysis of the affected image data.

Customizing colors
Capture One PRO is fully ICC compliant. A wide range of ICC camera profiles optimized for each individual camera RAW file and destination profiles optimized for the most commonly used printing and proofing processed are included.

Capture One PRO’s Color Editor allows you to modify existing destination profiles to match your own color requirements e.g. a special product color or skin tone. The profiles are saved and can be applied to individual images or groups of images at any time. Likewise, you can create and save and reuse color balance settings and gradation curves.

Finalizing for output
Finalizing image for output is one of Capture One PRO's core funtionalities and one of the main reasons why photographers like working with Capture One. Several image enhancement tools are available such as advanced sharpness adjustment and noise and banding suppression. You can apply ICC destination profile optimized for the output process and see the effects of your image enhancements on the screen. This way you can aviod unpleasant surprises later on.

Processing images
Finally, Capture One PRO lets you output your images in multiple formats and sizes simultaneously. All files are batch processed in the background and you can continue to work in Capture One.
