Architecture, Landscape and Technical cameras

The real value of technical cameras for architecture and landscape became obvious during our 31 city road show last year with our tour partner Cambo. DSLR and medium format shooters need to know how superior a technical solution can be. This issue is dedicated to using the right tools for the job, whether you plan to rent or own.

A unique look at technical camera solutions

Cambo digital Wide DS article

Doug toured on occasion with our road show last year. I was impressed with his simple explanations and technical knowledge. Please enjoy what he has written by clicking this article link. If you would like to test rent a Wide DS see our Phase One rental link. Not all rental companies offer the Wide DS so be sure to ask.

Some of you may ask, why Cambo? Competent systems exist from Horseman, Alpa and Arca Swiss. However, the technical camera solutions are not as common as they should be and knowledge of them is low. Excellent availability, service, support, training and dealer back-up combined with a first class product is crucial. Cambo provides it all with quick delivery. Internationally, we have offered solutions with almost all of the manufacturers. The key is that technical solutions need to be understood and used for better photography!

Phase One Partner of the year 2006

Dave Gallagher, Capture Integration in Atlanta. It is with great pleasure that I was able to give Dave Gallagher and his team the Dealer Of The Year award. This award is not about the highest sales or surpassing targets but about the total picture including client experiences that are above and beyond the call of duty. It’s these unique experiences and dedication that make this award so special.

I first started seeing the architectural photography of Jeffrey Totaro when we began putting the road show together in February of 2006. I also started to notice that Jeffrey was, and continues to be, very active in forums and within the industry. He goes out of his way to help with technical discussion, images and ideas that really work. This level of professional co-operation only comes from complete personal confidence in both business and photography. Reaching this high level of competence can only be achieved through a true devotion and love of the craft of photography. To read the interview click here. The culture of openness

For many, Phase One seems to be two companies. One that makes software for DSLRs and another that makes Digital backs. Nothing could be further from the truth, DSLRs, backs and software are all important to us.

There is only one focus at Phase One, photography! Our R&D teams have made many major breakthroughs with numerous patents. The 1998 release of the LightPhase digital back was full of breakthroughs – Single shot captue with multishot quality, Firewire connection, software-upgradeable based back, first 6-megapixel, few wires, camera flash sync based, most universal product ever. Simple.

Our results were like science fiction at the time, evolving into our world leading position. Our success came from the ultimate combination of software and hardware. Experiments using Capture One software on DSLR files at the time showed how poor the chips, optics and manufacturing were. However, it also became obvious that nobody could make an image as good as Capture One from a DSLR. The release of C1 Pro started a whole new software industry for RAW capture conversion.

Research in increasing quality with DSLRs and backs has benefited all users with significant software advances, new tools and new hardware. If you have comments please email me at jst@phaseone.com.
