The evolution of PHASEplus

This month, we have a powerful article about fine art photographer Don Libby. Don lives the fine art photographic dream through a total commitment to capture, and craftsmanship. Although we are mostly engineers at Phase One, our inspiration to craftsmanship comes from the experience of photographers like Don!

Current Phase One programs and offers

Capture One 4 - Released in December 2007, Capture One 4 is a success with downloads and software activations far exceeding our projections. Recent upgrades to our servers and IT at Phase One allowed us to handle the peak downloads and activations with no slowdown in service.

Many Capture One Pro users are now using both applications together. Using Capture One 3.7.7 for tethered operation allows images to be viewed in Capture One 4 at the same time. Assistants can now check focus on images with minimal effect on shoot speed, a highly requested feature. Praise has been high for the new import tool featuring, editing, back-up to external drive and higher import speed, High Dynamic Range tool, Web gallery, and support for ColorEditor profiles from Capture One 3.7.7.

Capture One 4 is available to all registered owners of Capture One LE and Pro for free. New licenses can be purchased from the Phase One e-Shop for 129 USD or 99 EUR.

Phase One P back refurb deals - We have just released a number of refurbished P backs from our P+ upgrade program. These backs are a terrific opportunity to get involved with medium format capture and become part of the Phase One family. Prices on some models are so good, you could spend more on a DSLR. Fine art photographer Don Libby

Don Libby operates Iron Creek Photography, a fine art photography business out of Tucson, Arizona, USA. Together with his wife Sandy they have made the pursuit of fine art photography, a way of life.

Don links fine art photography with his personal life experience resulting in images that connect on a very emotional level. As Don says, "Emotion is what we're trying to convey... not what we see but what we feel." Read more about this personal photographic journey here.

The culture of openness

I wish to dedicate this issue of PHASEplus to the memory of our friend and colleague Brian Horen. Brian was a constant source of inspiration at Phase One and was loved and respected by clients, peers, friends and family. We will all greatly miss Brian's optimism, humor and craftsmanship in everything he did!

Our success with PHASEplus is being translated into a new combined newsletter. We are planning to combine RawNews and PHASEplus into a single international newsletter called RAWNEWS+.

I have enjoyed sharing some of our ideas and industry thoughts through this "Culture of Openness" column. I have also enjoyed the many emails I have received since we began PHASEplus a little over a year ago. These emails have provided a great opportunity to better understand the thoughts and needs of photographers throughout North America.

In closing, a special thank you to all who have contributed, especially the many photographers who have shared their stories with us! The effort many of you have shown in sharing your ideas, techniques and business savvy has become a big part of our Phase One community. If you have a successful story to share, please let your dealer know or contact us directly. The focus on capture that we have emphasized with PHASEplus will be continuing on with RAWNEWS+ as well! Sharing success and optimism is a terrific way for all of us to grow together and move forward as a community!

If you have any final comments or you would like to share your knowledge and story, please email me at jst@phaseone.com.
