Quality is a reflection of our every day values!

For some, the word quality has lost it's meaning. I believe quality has meaning when it's personal. From our feature photographers, Jay Fletcher and John Derryberry, to our P+ products and Kevin Raber's article on Capture One, we offer a personal view of what quality means. I also tackle the difficult subject of our back-order situation.

P+ design. A new benchmark for quality

The P+ Design Philosophy by Claus Mølgaard, Vice President of R&D
Although we have many new features, I will focus on a few that really benefit photographers every day! Our goal was to develop a product that could work wherever a photographer is required to shoot! Although this sounds easy, in fact this has required us to revisit every aspect of the P design.

Better capture means that the LCD monitor must provide a new level of detail and accuracy. The new 230,400 pixel LCD offers a real solid black in addition to a color managed image. Combined with the new resolution, you now have accurate 1:1 zoom for 100% viewing providing the most reliable focus checking and image analysis. I believe that these are industry firsts.

Dynamic+, OptiColor+ and Xpose+  are new breakthroughs for Phase One. Dynamic+ provides high ISO of 1600 with the P 30+ and 800 with all other P+ backs with less noise and higher quality than ever before. Shoot in low light conditions that go far beyond what you thought was possible. OptiColor+ provides color detail even into the deepest shadows. An additional benefit is superior skin tone! Xpose+ provides long exposures up to an hour with no noise. This long exposure ability represents a significant technology milestone. The possibilities are endless!

The burst capacity has been upgraded so you can now shoot at top speed until your drive is full or your CF card is full. With the P 21+ this means up to 70 frames per minute! These are just a few of our new tools! Take the challenge and test out a P+ back. Contact your local dealer.

John Derryberry is based in Dallas and has built a brand that is a status symbol. The almost limitless goal of superb quality has backed up the status symbol photography with fine art level images and printing. This inverview between John and Walter Borchenko really goes to the depth of John's remarkable, intellectual approach to photography that reaches the very core of his clients. Read the article here.

Jay Fletcher takes a totally different approach to his photography, yet the pursuit of quality is the same! Jay Fletcher experiences his photography from an emotional standpoint. The effect on his clients is stupendous. To complete the experience, Jay controls the output to create truely amazing images and prints. Read the article here.

Not so Hidden Treasures
by Kevin Raber, Vice President, Phase One US
Kevin Raber has undertaken to write a series of articles discussing some of the most useful basic aspects of Capture One. As the first universal RAW processor, Capture One has pioneered the software category and defined many workflow basics that have yet to be achieved by competing products. Read the article here. The culture of openness

When will the back-ordered P + backs be delivered? For those of you who are waiting, I thank you for your patience. This is not an easy question to tackle.

You could listen to a lot of different excuses and explanations but the truth is fairly simple. Our new P+ backs represent a landmark of engineering and design. Unfortunately, with unique components designed for the most extreme applications, ordering lead time can be long. Our projections are crucial to insure a healthy and steady supply of components. Unfortunately, our projections have been extremely poor. Last year we doubled production to keep up with the orders for P 21, P 30 and P 45. This year, we have many more orders than last year|

With this unexpected success comes a new level of stress for our staff team as we cope with the difficulty of backorders. Every possible resource including finding additional subcontractors is under way.

Our sub-component ordering is basd on dealer reports for pending orders. Dealers have been overselling their projections month after month. If you are interested in a Phase One back, let your dealer know when you plan to order. This directly links to our ability to deliver. Please email comments to me at  jst@phaseone.com.
