Grand Canyon

Tim Wolcott / Steve Friedman

October 27th- November 3rd, 2017

Cost: €5,100 / $5,800 USD

One of the most beautiful of the 7 natural wonders

The Grand Canyon is nearly impossible to describe and equally difficult to give proper justice to in a photo. This mile deep, 277 mile long hiking paradise which has been carved out over millions of years by the Colorado river, presents photographers with an opportunity to tell their story in a unique way. When you join us on this journey, you are sure to capture images that only time itself could create.

We will begin in Sedona Arizona were visitors are often awestruck by the endless vistas of red rocks and natural beauty. This gem of the southwest provides ample opportunities for larger than life photos, especially when beautiful light cascades off the towering rock walls. A special mixture of natural beauty, cowboy culture and spirituality makes Sedona an exquisite place to visit.

Leaving Sedona, we will head over to Zion National Park. With towering cliffs, graceful slot canyons and winding rivers, Zion is a paradise for lovers of natural beauty. There’s no shortage of vistas and picturesque scenes around every corner. While you take in the beauty of the Grand Canyon from lookouts above the rim, in Zion the experience changes as you stand on the valley floor surrounded by giant slick rock canyon walls. Join us and see what the best of the southwest has to offer.

Talented Instructors

Tim Wolcott and Steve Friedman will join us on this PODAS, guiding us with their extensive knowledge of the area and directing us on how to get that iconic image.

What's Included?

Like all PODAS workshops our trip to the Southwest is all-inclusive. There’s no need to worry about opening your wallet once you arrive, as the workshop fee covers meals, lodging and transportation. Each attendee will be provided their own Phase One XF camera system to use during the workshop and will be provided access to our complete line of lenses, accessories and first hand technical knowledge.

This PODAS is designed to as inspiring as it is adventurous, while remaining relaxed and informal. Though we’ll be spending much of our time in the field to make use of the morning and evening light, there will be inspirational presentations from our instructors, educational camera and Capture One tutorials from Phase One staff as well as a bit of downtime in the middle of the day to allow you to enjoy the tranquility that the high desert of the southwest has to offer. We will cover many advanced techniques of the XF Camera System as they pertain to Landscape and Portrait photography.

This workshop emphasizes the proper use of the XF Camera System and the techniques to ensure consistent success... with a bit of room to enjoy a drink under the vast blue desert sky. Our PODAS group will be limited to 15 participants to ensure our 3 instructors and 2 staff can provide ample attention to all.

As is standard in PODAS, you’ll receive a complimentary camera bag, Capture One Pro Software License key when you arrive at the workshop and two large format professional prints, delivered to your door shortly after the workshop.

Fee

The cost of this trip is U.S. $5800 per person. PODAS will cover all expenses once you arrive in Sedona Arizona. The only expense that is not covered by PODAS is alcohol and additional room charges during your stay.

What You Need

We do ask that you bring a tripod that can support a Phase One XF Camera System, a laptop that meets the system requirements for Capture One Pro and CF cards. Workshop Schedule

We will begin our workshop in Sedona Arizona the afternoon of the 27th. Please arrive no later than 3pm. That evening we will have and introductory meeting so that you can meet the crew, grab a camera and get oriented for the trip. Sunset will be our first shoot outside of Sedona. A welcome dinner that night then have time to prep for our sunrise shoot the next morning.

Each day we will have at least one educational lesson both on location or in the classroom at our hotel. These will include lessons in Capture One Pro software, the XF Camera system, proper photographic technique, advanced tool use and of course several inspirational presentations by Tim Wolcott and Steve Friedman. We will also have time to edit images, practice editing techniques and perhaps evaluate some images captured during the workshop.

After a sunrise shoot on day two, we will head back to the hotel for breakfast then some training time with Capture One Pro. A jeep excursion will take us to some great locations and we will end our day with dinner.

The next morning will be another amazing sunrise shoot. We will then depart for Grand Canyon National Park. We will arrive in time to have lunch at the south rim, get settled into the hotel then head out for a sunset shoot on the rim. We will explore all the Grand Canyon has to offer for the next day under the expert guidance of Tim and Steve.

Our next location will be Zion National Park. Once we arrive we settle into our hotel then pick up the needed gear for the narrows the following morning. Sunset in Zion will start us off in this amazing and unique park.

An early start will take us out to the Narrows for a full day of shooting at off the beaten path locations. We will return to the hotel late in the evening, so bring your adventure boots! After a well deserved early evening, we will head out the next day for sunrise. Once back at the hotel we will get a chance to work on our images and review what we have captured so far.

One final sunrise shoot will start our final day together. Post breakfast we will head down to Las Vegas for the end of our trip. From here you can book an evening flight out. If you decide to stay on in Las Vegas for a show, let us know. We would be happy to have one final farewell dinner!
