The beauty of skin tones, captured in pure color

We spoke with photographer Ausra Babiedaite to get an insider’s perspective on capturing natural colors with the IQ3 100MP Trichromatic Digital Back.

Capturing natural colors

“I loved the concept itself. To photograph models with different skin tones and to use the IQ3 100MP Trichromatic Digital Back that is capable of replicating colors as close as the human eye sees it. The beauty of different skin tones, captured in pure color.

Together with Stylist Lotte Sindahl, we decided on a very neutral styling for this shoot. Various beige color nuances dominate the clothing choices together with some warmth of the color brown and some of the coolness of the color white. Beige is neutral, calm, and relaxing. It is a very flexible color that works beautifully with earthy tones.”

“The risk in choosing such an unvaried palette is obvious, the image can easily become relatively plain. With IQ3 100MP Trichromatic, however, the result I find to be quite the opposite. The system provided me the ability to emphasize the subtle and varied beauty of not only the neutral beige clothing and fine textures but to easily feature the dynamic variation in the tone, tint, and shade of the skin.”

Things become simpler when they work as they should

“Quite plainly, when it comes to images shot with the Trichromatic, colors are simply better, more accurate, and as a result appear more vibrant, more alive. The colors simply appear as they should. The IQ3 100MP Trichromatic truly renders colors in a far more natural way, straight out of the camera.”

“It is as actually difficult to describe it in words, you have to experience it and see the difference yourself to be able to see how powerful it actually is.”

“The IQ3 100MP Trichromatic Digital Back renders color in astonishing brilliance. It captures the most color nuances in the most natural way possible.”

Natural colors in the workflow

“The color value of the IQ3 100MP Trichromatic, not to mention the resolution, give me more flexibility, possibilities, and ultimately time after the shoot. That means a lot more time spent working on details and nuance that I would never have the opportunity to before the Trichromatic. You can get really close when cleaning up the skin and the results are so much worth it.

For this particular shoot, I wanted to keep color edits to a minimum. I simply made sure to apply the correct white balance using the grey card and corresponding tool in Capture One, and all the color fell into place.”

“Uniformity in the Skin Tone tool removed all the variations in the skin areas that are shifting in tones as well as saturation. Capture One is extremely powerful when it comes to color, the Trichromatic gave me the best possible starting point and the Skin Tone tool saved me many hours in Photoshop.”

Is Trichromatic Technology worth it?

“There are many important components when it comes to a powerful image. Composition, lighting, subject, depth of field, the list is endless. However, color is often one of – if not the most – important elements in photography. Different colors can send a very different message and it has a very significant emotional impact on the image. Evoking emotions is essential in creating strong images and color is one of the greatest tools to achieve this.”

“The Trichromatic provides the ability to capture moments in the exact color. I’m experiencing the moment of capture and that gives me an incredible opportunity to express my vision and as a photographer, you can’t put a price on that.”
