June 4th - 10th 2017

Cost: €4,500 / $5,000USD

The beauty & culture of Bali

Bali offers an incredible variety of diverse subject matter to fill your portfolio. Here you'll discover beautiful landscapes of terraced rice fields, ancient temples, looming volcanoes, and of course the rich culture of the Balinese people. You'll have endless opportunities for exploring and challenging your photographic vision. With all that subject matter and the reputation of near-perfect weather to capture it, there’s seemingly no end to the number of images can capture.
This will be our third PODAS workshop in Bali.  It seems we always find a reason to come back! And it's because this small tropical paradise never fails to deliver.  The accommodations are 5 star, the people are some of the friendliest you’ll ever meet and the rich culture set in idyllic landscapes makes the experience an unforgettable adventure.
Our PODAS workshop in Bali will focus primarily on the Balinese culture. We'll observe their traditions and temples, as well as the varied landscapes - from the farmlands that has been shaped over millennia, to the sleeping volcanoes that inhabit the island.  We’ll have many opportunities to explore, as well as participate in some cultural events.

Workshop Information

Talented Instructors

Jackie Ranken and Mike Langford are no strangers to exploring the culture and scenery of Bali.  Together with David Metcalf, our local guide, they’ve tried hard to explore every aspect of this island over the years and yet with each trip, they’re still discovering new and wonderful sights.
Jackie, Mike and David were our instructors in 2015 and shared with us some amazing locations, organized some truly unforgettable events and imparted quite a bit of their photographic wisdom to us all.
Whether rising early for sunrise over the volcanoes, instructing on the finer points of portrait photography with the locals, or helping us capture the subtle light and grand sky over the rice fields at sunset, this team is sure to inspire and delight.

What's included?

Like all PODAS workshops our trip to Bali is all-inclusive.  There’s no need to worry about opening your wallet once you arrive as the workshop fee covers meals, lodging and transportation. Each attendee will be provided their own Phase One XF Camera System to use during the workshop as well as access to our complete line of lenses, accessories and first hand technical knowledge.
This PODAS is designed to as inspiring as it is adventurous, but also relaxed and informal. Though we’ll be spending much of our time in the field to make use of the morning and evening light, there will be presentations from our instructors, educational camera and Capture One tutorials from Phase One staff, as well as some downtime in the middle of the day so you can enjoy the tranquility that Bali has to offer.  We will cover many advanced techniques of the XF Camera System as they pertain to landscape and portrait photography - two types you'll be sure to engage in on Bali.
This workshop emphasizes the proper use of the XF Camera System and the techniques to ensure consistent success... with a bit of room to enjoy a drink by the pool. There will be an equal amount of shooting in the field along with technical instruction, as there is in classroom lessons and expert presentations. Our PODAS group will be limited to 15 participants to ensure our 3 instructors and 2 staff can provide ample attention to all.
As is standard in PODAS, you’ll receive a complimentary F-Stop camera bag, Capture One Pro Software License key when you arrive at the workshop and two large format professional prints, delivered to your door shortly after the workshop.

The cost of this trip is €4,500 / $5,000USD per person. PODAS will cover all expenses once you arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Indonesia. The only expense that is not covered by PODAS is alcohol and additional room charges during your stay. Phase One will pick you up at the airport upon your arrival and provide all lodging, meals and transportation with the group until returning you to the airport at the end of the workshop.

What you need

We do ask that you bring a tripod that can support a Phase One XF Camera System, a laptop that meets the system requirements for Capture One Pro and CF cards. As this workshop will bring us to some cooler high altitudes for sunrise and sunset, in addition to rather warm inland locations that may require walking short distances, it is recommended you bring light but warm outer wear as well as appropriate light clothing for the tropical environment. Aside from that you only need to bring your passion for photography.

More information

The workshop will begin and end with pick-up and drop-off from the Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). Arrivals should be scheduled for no later than 1pm on June 4th and return flights the afternoon of June 10th. Flights may be limited so if you plan on arriving early, or staying late, we can certainly help accommodate your schedule. We’ll be traveling via passenger van to most locations and will be sure to provide ample room in each vehicle for comfort. Dietary restrictions can certainly be satisfied and any travel assistance you may need is just an email away.
